Police in Niagara Region say a man who was arrested and injured by gunfire after he allegedly shot an officer on Friday remains in hospital and will likely face further charges, as the province's police watchdog continues to investigate the incident.

Niagara regional police had issued a shelter-in-place order in the area of Plymouth Road and Second Street in Welland, Ont., around 7:45 a.m. Friday after police were met with gunfire while helping bylaw officers deal with a "fencing issue" around what is believed to be an old church converted into a home.
