Midfielder Ismaël Koné has undergone successful surgery to repair a broken leg suffered in Canada's 6-0 win over Qatar at the World Cup, Canada Soccer announced Friday.  The 24-year-old Koné was injured on a hard tackle from Assim Madibo in the second half of Thursday's Group B game in Vancouver.  "He is expected to make a full recovery but will miss the remainder of FIFA World Cup," Canada soccer said.

Carney entered the dressing room after the match in Vancouver and said the players showed a level of character some people "never achieve in their life" with how they responded following Ismaël Koné's devastating leg injury.

Fans in Vancouver and across the country erupted after Canada routed Qatar 6-0 on Thursday for the men's team's first World Cup victory.
