TORONTO - Arcade Fire鈥檚 lead singers say their marriage is over, but they remain committed to the band.
Montreal indie rockers Win Butler and R茅gine Chassagne announced Thursday on social media that they have decided to separate, but their "bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire."
Butler and Chassagne met at McGill University, as the band was forming, and the couple married in 2003.
Arcade Fire burst into the mainstream when "The Suburbs" won album of the year at the Grammy Awards in 2011.
Three years ago, music publication Pitchfork ran a story in which four people accused Butler of inappropriate sexual interactions that included unwelcome advances.
In a statement at the time, Butler acknowledged he had sexual relationships outside of his marriage to Chassagne, but denied any misconduct, saying they were consensual encounters.
Earlier this year, the band released their seventh studio album "Pink Elephant" and embarked on a tour.
In a statement on Thursday, the band says the couple continues to "love, admire and support each other" as they co-parent their 12-year-old son.
