CHANNEL-PORT AUX BASQUES - Mounties in Channel-Port aux Basques, N.L., say two people were arrested after a traffic stop for possession cocaine and open cannabis.
They say around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, officers were on patrol looking for impaired and erratic drivers when they spotted and stopped a vehicle on Main Road in Isle aux Morts.
Police say that officers saw evidence of the illicit drugs, which led to the arrest of the 22-year-old driver and her passenger, a 30-year-old man.
The RCMP say a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a substance officers believe is cocaine.
They say the pair, who are both from St. David's, are expected to make their first court appearance in April for possession of a controlled substance.
Police say the woman was also ticketed for having open cannabis while driving, and are reminding the public that it is against the law to drive with cannabis that is open or not sealed in its original purchase packaging.Â
