HALIFAX - A few thousand homes and businesses across the Atlantic region were still without power Sunday as the area recovers from extremely high winds over the weekend.
Ahead of the weekend, Environment Canada had issued weather warnings for all of the Atlantic provinces, forecasting gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour in some areas.
At one point, Nova Scotia Power was reporting more than 186,000 customers without electricity, but that number dropped to roughly 1,300 by late Sunday.
In New Brunswick, NB Power reported 577 customers were still in the dark, down from the 54,000 homes and businesses that had been without power Saturday.
Newfoundland Power wasn't reporting any outages late Sunday, but Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro said roughly 1,100 customers south of the Baie Verte area were in the dark.
People were warned not to go near any downed power lines, as they could still be energized.Â
