FREDERICTON - The Fredericton Police Force says one of its former officers is facing charges after an investigation into his police files.Â
Police said Tuesday that Andrew Savoy, an ex-constable, was charged with perjury, uttering forged documents and breach of trust.
Fredericton police said they found inconsistencies in Savoy's files during an internal audit, but the force did not give further details in a news release.
The charges are a result of an independent investigation into his files by the Miramichi Police Force, led by deputy chief Randy Hansen.
Fredericton police also referred the matter to the New Brunswick Police Commission for investigation. After Savoy resigned from the force earlier this year, the commission lost jurisdiction and closed the case.
Savoy is alleged to have committed the crimes between 2023 and January 2026, while he was employed with Fredericton police.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28.
Fredericton police Chief Gary Forward said in a statement his organization "is committed to transparency and accountability, and all individuals, current and past, are held to the same standard under the law."
"We take all allegations involving our officers seriously and acted to ensure a thorough and independent investigation was completed."
