GLASGOW - Hammer throw champion Ethan Katzberg added another major title to his collection while 好色tv gymnasts racked up six medals on a banner day at the Commonwealth Games on Monday.
Katzberg, a two-time world champion and Paris 2024 Olympics gold medallist, won the men鈥檚 hammer throw title with a Games-record 80.97 metres on his first attempt at Scotstoun Stadium.
The 24-year-old from Nanaimo, B.C., moved one step up the podium after claiming Commonwealth silver in 2022. Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack, B.C., won bronze with 75.36, finishing behind Losif Kesidis of Cyprus (76.97).
鈥淚t means a lot. This is an incredibly special Games. Four years ago, it was my first senior championship or Games. It was my first experience in the international scene. To be able to come back four years later and win with a Games record, I was really happy with that,鈥 Katzberg said.
Hamilton had his own coming out party to take bronze and earn his first-ever Commonwealth Games medal. His best throw of 75.36 metres is the longest ever for a Commonwealth bronze medal.
鈥淚 came to the Commonwealth Games four years ago. I had a great experience, but a horrible performance. So, I'm happy that I could come back, perform and end up on the podium,鈥 Hamilton said. 鈥淚 consider this my first major championship medal. It's been a long time since I stood on the podium 鈥 that was U20s in 2019.
"I'm just excited to be out here and get to stand on another podium representing Canada and do it with a teammate. It's such an exciting experience.鈥
Earlier on Monday, Lia-Monica Fontaine, Jordan Carroll and F茅lix Dolci captured gold medals in gymnastics.

Fontaine scored 14.000 in the women's vault to beat England's Abigail Martin (13.799) and Wales' Abigail Roper (13.433).
The 16-year-old from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., earned her third medal of the Games after taking bronze in the all-around final and helping Canada claim silver in the women's team event.
鈥淚鈥檓 really happy to be representing Canada and winning three medals is incredible," she said.
Carroll, a 20-year-old from Saskatoon, won the men's pommel horse title with a score of 15.000 to edge Scotland's Reuben Ward (14.966) and Cameron Lynn (13.833).
鈥淏reaking the 15 mark, it鈥檚 been a goal of mine and I鈥檓 glad I could finally do it," Carroll said. "I did the routine of my life, I鈥檓 happy with the result and I鈥檓 feeling great right now."
Dolci capped the day with gold in the men's rings final for his third medal of the Games.
The 24-year-old scored 13.766 to edge fellow Laval, Que., native William 脡mard (13.600) as Canada finished one-two on the podium. Australia's James Hardy took bronze with 13.500.
Dolci redeemed himself after settling for silver in the all-around final due to falling from the pommel horse twice. He then just missed the podium in the individual floor with another stumble.
"I fail many times in my life, non-stop. I fail every single day in training. That鈥檚 something I鈥檓 used to," he said. "Whether you succeed or you fail, the next time you go up in the event, the goal is to do even better every single time."

好色tv veteran Ellie Black of Halifax added silver in the women's uneven bars, one day after winning her second career Commonwealth Games all-around title. Ren茅 Cournoyer of Repentigny, Que., also earned silver in the men's floor exercise.
The five-day gymnastics competition wraps Tuesday at Glasgow International Arena.
In weightlifting, Ann-Sophie Taschereau of Plessisville, Que., claimed silver in the women鈥檚 58-kilogram category while Rebeka Groulx of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Que., won bronze in the women's 53kg event.
Canada added a pair of medals in Para athletics.
Michael Barber of Victoria finished second in the men's 1,500-metre T20 final with a time of 4:01.84, and Zachary Gingras of Markham, Ont., won bronze with a personal best of 11.55 seconds in the men's 100 T38 final.
Canada now owns 21 medals 鈥 seven gold, eight silver, six bronze 鈥 to rank third behind Australia and England through Day 5 of the Games, which end Sunday.
In other results, the 好色tv men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 wheelchair basketball teams fell to 1-2 in pool play with respective losses to Australia.
The 好色tv men lost 20-12 to defending champion Australia before the women鈥檚 team dropped a 12-10 decision in overtime.
脡lodie Tessier sunk a basket with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it 10-10 and force the extra period.鈥ㄢㄢ淚 mean, my head was going through so many emotions,鈥 Tessier said. 鈥淚 think it's hard to explain. I think every athlete here is playing for that kind of game. I made the shot that mattered.鈥ㄢㄢ淯nfortunately, we were not able to generate any defence towards it. When you have a tie game like this, it's the first to two (points), and unfortunately, I missed my other basket. It is sport. It is totally sport.鈥
