CALGARY - Former Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien will serve as head coach of the ºÃÉ«tv team at the upcoming Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
Therrien will be joined at the Dec. 26-31 tournament by assistant coaches Drew Bannister, Rob Cookson and Patrice Lefebvre, Hockey Canada said Thursday.
"We are excited to unveil the coaching staff that is tasked with leading Team Canada at the Spengler Cup with the goal of reclaiming the championship for the first time since 2019," general manager Marc Bergevin said.
"We believe this is a well-rounded group that will be complemented by a world-class support staff."
Therrien had two stints (2000-03 and 2012-17) as head coach of the Canadiens. He also coached in Pittsburgh from 2005-09, and led the Penguins to the Stanley Cup final in 2008.
Canada will open the preliminary round on Boxing Day against the U.S. Collegiate Selects.
Switzerland's HC Fribourg-Gotteron won the six-team club competition last year.
