Canada's Liam Brearley wins snowboard slopestyle world title

SAINT MORITZ - Liam Brearley delivered a clutch second run to secure his first world title in men鈥檚 slopestyle on Friday.

The 22-year-old from Gravenhurst, Ont., scored 90.15 points to claim gold at the snowboard world championships.

鈥淚鈥檓 so glad I landed that run,鈥 said Brearley. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 land my first one, and I was just like, 鈥業鈥檝e got nothing to lose, I鈥檓 going to put it all out there,鈥 and it worked out.鈥

Olympic big air champion Su Yiming of China finished second with 85.07, while 16-year-old American Oliver Martin took bronze with 78.98.

Brearley said the level of competition at St. Moritz was among the best he鈥檚 seen.

鈥淭hese boys are killing it, and it鈥檚 such a high level of slopestyle right now,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just an insane level of riding.鈥

Fellow 好色tv and World Cup season champion Cameron Spalding, of Havelock, Ont., placed sixth in a deep 16-man field that saw some of slopestyle鈥檚 biggest names finish further down the rankings, including Norway鈥檚 Marcus Kleveland, a two-time world champion, in 14th.

Reigning Olympic champion Zoi Sadowski-Synnott of New Zealand claimed the women鈥檚 title, with Japan鈥檚 Kokomo Murase taking silver and Reira Iwabuchi earning bronze.聽

Quebec City鈥檚 Laurie Blouin finished 10th.
