The woman was located in an area of trees and deep snow just off the Banff Avenue ski path, a green run at the resort. Savinkoff said first responders were unable to revive the skier and she was declared dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the woman's death has not been determined but Savinkoff says it's not considered suspicious.

Kendra Scurfield, a spokesperson for Banff Sunshine Village, said in an interview Tuesday that bystanders had seen the woman fall into a treed area with deep snow.聽

The resort's medic team was called to the Banff Avenue ski run at about 3 p.m. and arrived shortly after, she said. The woman was unresponsive and they tried to resuscitate her for more than two hours, but were unsuccessful, Scurfield said.

"Our condolences, our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends during this difficult time," she said.
