MONTREAL - Some of the pomp and circumstance of Saint-Jean Baptiste Day will be subdued today as a Montreal neighbourhood grieves three people killed this week in a horrific shooting.

The C么te-des-Neiges Business Development Corporation says it has cancelled planned F锚te nationale celebrations "out of respect" for the community.

Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and city officials tried to reassure population after a shooting on Monday left three dead, including a police officer and a bystander caught in the crossfire. Martinez Ferrada said that despite the tragedy, Montrealers should feel safe in their city. (June 22, 2026)
