TORONTO - The Los Angeles Dodgers silenced a raucous crowd at Rogers Centre by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in extra innings to win the World Series in seven games.
Blue Jays fans were left stunned after Miguel Rojas tied it 4-4 with a ninth-inning home run before Dodgers catcher Will Smith delivered the go-ahead blast in the 11th.
Earlier in the game, it seemed like Bo Bichette’s three-run homer in the third inning would lead the Jays to victory.Â
But it wasn’t meant to be, and fans who had been hoping to see the Jays clinch their first World Series championship since 1993 left the ballpark heartbroken.
The Blue Jays’ successful post-season had united baseball fans across Canada, with millions of people cheering for Canada’s only Major League Baseball team.Â
The Dodgers have now won back-to-back championships and will take home the Commissioner’s Trophy.Â
