Images of an Elections Ontario pamphlet about voter registration caused confusion on social media, with some users concluding that voter information cards would not be sent out to some of those registered to vote ahead of the Feb. 27 election. Some social media users claimed the rules amounted to voter suppression from Ontario Premier Doug Ford. These claims are false. The pamphlet comes from Elections Ontario, not Ford or his campaign, and voters do not need an information card to vote on election day. If you are already registered to vote, you will receive your voter information card by mail and do not need to re-register, Elections Ontario says.
In February, several social media accounts shared images of an Elections Ontario pamphlet about preparing to vote in the provincial election on Feb. 27.听
In a since deleted post on the X platform, formerly Twitter, a user pointed out the online registration deadline of Feb. 17 for Ontarians to sign up to receive a voter information card in the mail.
"There are thousands of people who are going to lose their voting rights because of this electoral change," the user .听
Some of the responses to the X post claimed Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford was "creating confusion" or engaging in "voter suppression" because of the voter information card deadline.听
Similar appeared on along with the claim voters will no longer receive their voter information card by mail "automatically" and must register online.

The pamphlet comes from Elections Ontario, the responsible for conducting elections in the province. 聽
Elections Ontario maintains the list of eligible voters in Ontario and is responsible for voter information cards.听
According to its website, electors who were already registered to vote will receive their voter information card in the mail between Feb. 17 to 22.听
"If you have registered to vote for a previous provincial election, then you don't need to re-register and you will be receiving your voter information card after February 17," Elections Ontario on X.听
In a phone call, an Elections Ontario spokesperson said they send cards out based on the information they are given when the voters register.听
If something has changed, such as name or address, voters will need to update their registration details in order to receive the card.

You can still vote even if you didn't receive a voter information card, the website notes.听
"You can also update or add your information to the voters list when you go to vote at the local election office, advance voting location or on election day," the website reads.听
A voter information card isn't necessary to find the location of your polling place.听
Voters can use to find their electoral district, with local voting information available after Feb. 14, or call 1-888-668-8683.听
Voters do not need to vote at a polling place if they are unable to make it there or need help voting; Elections Ontario if they contact their local elections office by Feb. 26.听
