HALIFAX - The sexual assault case involving Mike Smith of 鈥淭railer Park Boys" fame returns to court in late January.
A lawyer for the Nova Scotia-born actor appeared in Dartmouth, N.S., provincial court on Smith's behalf Wednesday morning, and told Judge Brad Sarson he is waiting for outstanding disclosure.
The judge set a new court date in the matter for Jan. 23.
Smith was charged on Oct. 2 in an alleged sexual assault from December 2017 involving a female complainant.
Court documents do not include details of the alleged assault, but show that Smith has been ordered not to communicate with or visit the home, work, or school of the alleged victim. The court has also ordered a publication ban on anything that would identify the complainant.
On Nov. 10, Smith's lawyer Stan MacDonald told reporters "this is an allegation at this point. It hasn鈥檛 been proven. It鈥檒l be tried in court, it won鈥檛 be tried in the media."
The 53-year-old actor is best known for playing Bubbles on the television show 鈥淭railer Park Boys.鈥
Trailer Park Boys Incorporated, a Nova Scotia-based company with Smith registered as one of three directors, has said the firm is aware of the allegations and takes them seriously. The other two registered directors of the company are John Paul Tremblay, who plays Julian on the show, and Robert Wells, the actor who plays Ricky.
The Trailer Park Boys announced in August that they had completed filming for the 10-episode 13th season, which will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the series.
In April 2016, Smith faced a misdemeanour domestic battery charge in Los Angeles following an incident at a Hollywood hotel involving a woman, with the charge being dropped a month later. Smith denied any wrongdoing after his April 1, 2016, arrest, saying the woman involved in the Hollywood incident was a friend of his with whom he had a 鈥渓oud and heated dispute.鈥
